ABOUT THE COURSE
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of Graphic Design, or commonly known as Visual Communication Design. Organized as a continual interplay of theory and practice, we will explore historical, perceptual and semiotic approaches to understanding and creating graphic designs. This course will teach you core elements and principles such as typography, colour theory, composition, spacing and legibility.
The hands-on projects will focus on two-dimensional design assignments. These assignments are designed for you to achieve a better understanding and application processes of what has been taught in class. These will further support the artistic development of every student who wish to pursue a degree in Visual Communication Design, User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) Design, and Web Design.
This course will help you gain the necessary knowledge in skills to advance in other foundation courses in design.
At the end oF this course you will...
- Develop a conceptual and practical foundation in the principles of graphic design and visual communication
- Understand the concepts of visual communication through theory discussions and in-class activities/projects
- Identify designs from historical Graphic Design movements
- Understand the basic principles of typography (e.g., grid, spacing, hierarchies), and be able to apply them to your own designs
- Create small graphic design projects independently, and demonstrate at a novice level the application based on what has been taught throughout the course.
